It’s Always Happy Hour Somewhere on Isla Mujeres
Most of the night life activity takes place on the north end of the island, in the downtown area. Atmospheres will vary widely – you’ll find everything from subdued jazz to quiet Mexican music to a modern sports bar to a high-energy disco.
Romi’s Bar at the Hotel Posada del Mar has been a favorite among tourists and locals for more than 25 years. The bar is known for its pina coladas, margaritas and, of course, cold beer.
Buho’s Restaurant and Bar
Buho’s Restaurant and Bar is located on Playa Norte at Hotel Cabanas Maria del Mar. Its offers a casual, laid-back atmosphere with a terrific view of the Caribbean. Famous around the world, Buho’s was designated one of the best beach bars in the world by Salt Water Sportsman Magazine in November 2001. In addition to a wide selection of beers, you can get almost any mixed drink imaginable. They also offer a full menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
If you enjoy good tequila, La Adelita is the place for you. The only tequila bar on the island, it boasts a variety of more than 150 different liquors, as well as quality cigars. Cocktails and margaritas can also be found here.
OM Bar & Chill Lounge
Just off Main Street in the downtown area, OM Bar & Chill Lounge is a wonderful little place to relax after a long day of beach play. An artist’s delight, the interior of this one-of-a-kind-locale appears as though it was carved out of a cave! The bar offers a fabulous wine list, more than 20 varieties of herbal tea, and a revolutionary draft beer system that lets customers dispense their own lager from taps at the table (a computer in the back monitors consumption and totals your bill). Their playlist includes jazz, reggae, and Bossa Nova music, so you can relax while enjoying a great drink and a unique visual experience.
JAX Bar and Grill
No list of Isla Mujeres happy hour venues would be complete without mentioning JAX Bar and Grill. JAX is the only ocean-front sports bar on the island, and offers billiard, draft beer, great food, and specialty drinks. Televisions are placed strategically around the bar to broadcast the latest sporting event, and an upstairs open-air restaurant and bar with a brand-new deck offers a stunning view of the ocean. The menu includes more than sixty items, among them such simple comfort foods as chicken nuggets, grilled cheese, and corn dogs, and the chef is always willing to cook up special orders by request. Be surer to try the world-famous JAX burger.
