Enjoy Great Food and Stunning Visual Delights
Few destinations offer such a delicious array of options for the traveler who wants to enjoy great food and soak up a beautiful environment as Isla Mujeres. Angelo’s is a consummate example of a charming island eatery. This open-air Italian restaurant is located downtown, with a sidewalk terrace for observing the nightlife in the center of the city. Angelo’s offers an appetizing selection of antipasti, pasta, grilled seafood, and oven-baked pizza. The seafood soup is a favorite of tourists and locals.
Outside of town, nestled on the pier of Villa Rolandi, is Casa Rolandi. Located in the Villa Rolandi hotel, this popular restaurant offers a stunning view of the island from the open-air terrace. The sophisticated menu includes several dishes not found anywhere else on the island. Also available is a rich selection of fine wines and more than 80 premium tequilas from around the world. Casa Rolandi is a prime venue for soaking in delicious cuisine and beautiful sunsets.
If you’re a seafood lover, you’ll want to spend an evening at Pinguin. Mexican-style grilled seafood and lobster is the specialty at this open-air restaurant, located three blocks west of the ferry pier in front of the Hotel Posada del Mar. Enjoy a generous platter of lobster tail in your choice of butter, garlic, or secret sauces while looking out over the beach. The eatery also offers seafood casserole and fajitas.
Some of the best food on the island can be found at Zazil Ha, located at the Hotel Na Balam at the end of Playa Norte. The chef’s specialties include Mayan chicken stuffed with corn mushroom and goat cheese, black pasta with calamari and pesto sauce, and the fresh catch of the day. They also bake their own bread, and offer special dishes for vegetarians and those who participate in the island’s popular yoga retreats. Visit the shore side Zazil Ha for a romantic, candle-lit dinner just a few steps from the water.
It’s no wonder that Sunset Grill is one of the island’s most popular restaurants. It’s difficult to imagine a more ideal setting for a beachfront restaurant, with comfortable chairs and tables providing seating right by the water. A shady, palapa-style roof shields diners from the heat of the sun by day, and at night the mild breezes perfectly complement the wide selection of steak or seafood. The restaurant is located on the north beach, near the Nautibeach Condominiums. Reservations are recommended.
